Abstract

Technology is presented as a new invention, but humans have been developing technology since the beginning of civilization. From the invention of the wheel to the latest iPhone, technology has had a significant impact on society. The world's greatest countries learned to harness technology to demonstrates a country's political power. In today's world, states continue to do this, but new space has been paved for individuals and corporations who have taken the power of technology into their own hands. At the hands of those in power, technology has the capacity to manipulate and persuade people to become misinformed; however, with the invention of the internet, individuals can take back power and rewrite history. The internet's accessibility provides a platform for anyone to be heard. By using ethical data visualization practices historians can help pave the way for creating a more complete account of history, one that takes power back from those who have abused technology.
