Abstract

Hymns for Deer Folk is a horror novel-in-stories that welcomes you into the mysteries and myths of a small town in central Oregon. Starling has always been rooted in secrets and tales. Its citizens have been raised on stories of wish-granting witches, haunted houses, and angels with antlers. Through the eyes and experiences of its people, Starling will begin to show itself as a desperate wife makes a bargain for a baby, a deputy investigates the first murder in fifty years, and a broken-hearted woman finds medicine only Starling can offer. Each story reveals and complicates truths about this small town with big secrets and the people who live and die in its borders.
