Abstract

The use of social media has changed the manner in which individuals connect with one another in the 21st century and today communication between people has changed to utilizing a profile to post information about their interests, hobbies, and other personal information. The utilization of these platforms among adolescents ranging from ages 11 to 18 are changing the manner in which they connect with one another. These systems have numerous beneficial outcomes, for example, staying in contact with companions and meeting new individuals. However, there are some negative impacts among adolescents that can possibly contribute towards mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression. The research being done in this thesis is to contribute towards raising awareness of limiting social media use for teenagers/young adults, the detrimental effects of social media, and possible solutions to reducing anxiety and depression behind using social media that involve parent's limiting screen time and monitoring their children's online behavior.
