Abstract

The Reno area is growing extremely quickly, so it is important to build subdivisions that do not severely impact the environment. Green Valley at Damonte Ranch, a new planned development, will balance economic, environmental, and societal factors to provide a home people will love coming home to. The neighborhood will have 63 units and 49 parking stalls. Pervious pavements will also be utilized around the site to assist with replenishing the ground water. Buildings and surfaces will be lightly colored to minimize the urban heat island effect. The site will also be elevated to protect the wetland that is adjacent to the site. Landscaping will be native to the Truckee Meadows and will be irrigated using reclaimed water. The entire site, as well as individual buildings, will be LEED certified. Overall, the subdivision is expected to cost roughly $715,000 for the improvements, not including buildings.
