Abstract
In order to work outside of patriarchal systems and to create distinctly feminine discourse, my work explores pleasure and its power through the lens of women being allowed pleasure on their own terms. The female speakers in my poems use explicit language to critique patriarchal structures, and often, these female speakers are oppressed women pulled from history and refigured as powerful. Mixing the political with religion and mythology and understanding the political through female pleasure and desire allows my work to critique patriarchal structures that for centuries have posited women as less than men.
