Abstract
Microflotation experiments with the soluble salts, potassium sulfate, sodium sulfate and magnesium sulfate, together with solubility determinations of collector-salt compounds have been conducted to study the mechanisms of soluble salt flotation. Experimental results show that potassium sulfate floats well with sodium octyl sulfonate, amines (8C, 12C, and 14C), oleic acid and lauric acid. It was found that short chain amine is a superior flotation collector to long-chain amines, fatty acids, and sodium octyl sulfonate for sodium sulfate. Magnesium sulfate responds to flotation with shortchain amine, sulfonate and fatty acid.
