Abstract

In the present study 16 typically functioning university students, 8 male and 8 female, were taught six AB CB conditional discriminations within the tactile modality. Participants were then exposed to a series of 48 posttest trials for the derived relations of symmetry and transitivity and 24 probes assessing the relative control associated with the tactual dimensions of shape and texture for the transitive relation. A Student's - t test was used to analyze male and female differences in responding to shape and texture. Results are discussed in terms of the demonstration of the derived transitive relation and a description of the type of stimulus control (compound or complex) associated with each multielement transitive relation.
