Abstract

Current challenges in the form of the global climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic, are the motivation behind the research reported in this dissertation. My work focusses on understanding the light matter interactions occurring in the photo(electro)catalytic processes specifically those involving the production of value-added chemicals and inactivation of viruses. The understanding of such photo(electro)catalytic processes holds the key towards a circular economy (sustainable and ecofriendly processes). I have reported four specific studies focusing on addressing the above-mentioned challenges through potentially green and sustainable routes as shown in the graphical abstract. The choice of materials for the synthesis of the photo(electro)catalysts has been discussed in each chapter. The major part in the four studies is focused on the performance assessment of the respective photo(electro)catalysts supported with mechanistic insights.
