Abstract
Cultural foundations contribute to how individuals perceive and relate to the world
around them. A comparative analysis of how the cultural values of the United States and
India influence the management and delivery of health care is preceded by a detailed
examination of the epistemology of each unique health care system. It establishes the
central argument for the need to redefine measures of health and well-being and
encourages a more profound discussion of the effects of culture on the health outcomes of
a nation. An analysis of the quality of the United States’ and India’s health care systems
from a human ecology standpoint follows to the conclusion that the application of the
highest medical technology and corresponding expense does not guarantee the best
outcomes when compared to the effects of culture.
