Abstract

lntermetallic aluminides based on titanium and niobium have potential applications as high temperature materials in aerospace and automobile industries due to their high specific strength and high specific modulus. A knowledge of phase relations in the ternary Ti-AI -Nh alloys will help in developing suitable heat treatment cycles to meet the desired properties and also to predict the material behavior at high temperatures. Such comprehensive data in the Ti-Al-Nb system is available only at 1473 K while the expected temperature range of application for these alloys is 873 to 1271 K. This research project was aimed at determining the phase relations in Ti-AI-Nh system at 1273 K.
