Abstract
An area of approximately 32 square miles was mapped in the vicinity of Mound House, an abandoned railroad siding between Carson City and Dayton, Nevada. The oldest rocks exposed are Mesosoic metasedimentary and meta-igneous rocks that nave been intruded by a granodiorite related to the Sierra Nevada Batholith. These rocks are overlain by Cenozoic volcanic rocks most of watch comprise formations described by previous workers in one Virginia City region. An extensive Quaternary basalt covers the southern end of the Virginia Range. The rocks are generally tilted westward by northeasterly trending Cenozoic faults.
