Abstract

Due to recent events in the United States such as the shooting of Michael Brown by Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri, many law enforcement officers have come under increased public scrutiny. This is due to the use of lethal force that many people find unjust and excessive. As a result, many officers have been required to wear body cameras in order to document the situations they encounter on a daily basis. However, these body cameras have a fatal flaw in their functionality: none of them have dedicated, automated features. ClearShot Solutions wanted to address this flaw by developing a body camera that had automated features that would help make an officer’s job easier. The automated body camera system turns on and begins recording immediately when the officer draws a firearm. This method allows the body camera to record video and audio of the situation which will help provide evidence to show whether or not the officer was justified in using lethal force.
