Abstract

It is unknown if plant cyclic nucleotide gated channels (CNGCs) are activated by cyclic nucleotide monophosphates (cNMPs, e.g. cAMP or cGMP), or even if cNMPs are present at physiologically significant levels in plants. cNMP presence in growing A.thaliana pollen tubes was visualized using fluorescent biosensors, and a competitive binding assay was designed to gauge CNGC binding affinity for cNMPs. cAMP- and cGMP- specific biosensors showed strong, uniform fluorescence throughout pollen tube; the competitive binding assay was not completed due to laboratory shutdown
