Abstract
Virtual Reality: Creating a New Game Inspired by Successful Previous Games Virtual Reality (VR) as a gaming platform is a relatively new technology but has nevertheless quickly generated its own unique take on video games. While some VR games are simply versions of PC or console games formatted for VR, those that use VR as their native platform have utilized the inherent immersive technology of VR generally more effectively. This project focuses on a review of a number of both types of VR games, analyzes what factors make them successful, specifically focusing on game mechanics and visual elements, and adapts those factors into an entirely new VR game inspired in that way primarily by Beat Saber; the overall magical theme was somewhat inspired by The Unspoken and the stylized visual style by Job Simulator and SUPERHOT VR. The newly created game aims to create an innovative style of play using game mechanics that rely on the movement of VR controllers, as opposed to controlling with button pressing, to take full advantage of the immersive nature of VR.
