Abstract

Anionic modifiers were used in both anionic and cationic flotation of hematite. It is demonstrated that the charged species of the modifiers are especially active. In the cationic flotation of hematite, the anionic modifiers act as activators while in the anionic flotation of hematite they act as depressants. In some cases, the first protonated species of the modifiers seem to be more surface active; however, in some cases, the unprotonated ions affect the flotation more than the protonated ones.
