Abstract

Re-analysis of archaeological museum collections can offer valuable insights into the significance of Chinese gaming in understanding Chinese ethnic identity in Nevada during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Utilizing archaeological material from four Northern Nevada sites (Lovelock Chinatown, Island Mountain, Yeong Wo Mercantile and 90 H Block), it can be determined whether or not Chinese gaming activities were taking place in Nevada and if they were using traditional gaming as a way to reinforce their own ethnic group identities.
