Abstract
A deuterium-calibrated, discrete-state compartment model simulates regional ground-water flow for a portion of southern Nevada which includes the Nevada Test Site. Model simulated discharge rates, flow directions, flow rates, and mean ages generally agree with other sources of hydrogeological information available. Observed regional oD values in the model area are generally more depleted than vertical recharge oD values and more enriched than underflow oD values from higher latitudes. Total groundwater flow through the model is 58.9x 10 6 m3/yr and is comprised of approximately 40 percent underflow and 60 percent vertical charge. The Spring Mountains and the Fortymile Canyon/Wash – Stockdale Wash area are major vertical recharge locations with 9.6 and 7.6x 10 3 m 3/yr of recharge respectively. Simulated regional groundwater mean and median ages range from 6,700 and 1,400 years and Fortymile Canyon/Wash to 26,3000 and 21,6000 years and Yucca Flat.
