Abstract

This report presents a two-dimensional method of analysis to evaluate seismic response of surface and embedded footings resting of saturated sand. The method accounts for strength and stiffness loss due to the generation of residual pore water pressure and also pore water pressure dissipation. The predictive capability of the method of analysis has been verified by comparing the recorded response of centrifuged models subjected to simulated earthquakes, to those computed by the method. The comparative study suggests that the method can be used successfully to study the response of footings and soil deposits. This method also has been used to identify important factors that affect the response of footings. The results of such a parametric study has also been reported (Abstract by author).
