Abstract
Over last 42 years, most of the rainfall during the summer monsoon season in theKathmandu Valley has ranged in intensity between 0.13 and 0.37mmh−1, based on the 24h accumulation measurement. We infer that this range of intensity of rainfall can pose problems leading to the development of flood conditions in the Kathmandu Valley. There are numerous occurrences of low intensity rainfall (0.01"0.25mmh−1), whereas higher intensity rainfall (4.25"4.50mmh−1) occurs less frequently. As the aim of this study is to examine the distribution of the rainfall intensity over Kathmandu during the summer monsoon season, we believe that the aforementioned sets of data have revealed the information we sought to find.
