Abstract
Much of the behavior in which we engage involves stimulus control. Because stimulus control plays such an important role in everyday life, it is imperative that we analyze the development, stability, and conditions which may affect stimulus control. This study examines the effects of low- and high-rate responding on generalization gradients. Forty-eight undergraduates participated in the present study. Participants were randomly assigned an experimental group DRL and DRH with and without points. Participants pressed the space bar in the presence of a particular color stimulus S+ (green) according to the specific schedule of reinforcement assigned. Following this a generalization test was administered and points (reinforcement) were or were not present during testing, depending on the condition to which the participant was assigned. The data obtained were inspected via a generalization gradient for each group and were analyzed with respect to absolute and relative gradients, area, height, form and slope of the gradient.
