Abstract
Reversible metal electrodeposition (RME) is a promising method for constructing dynamic windows with electronically switchable transparency. Through the reduction of lighting, heating, and cooling costs, these windows reduce energy consumption. Unlike most RME electrolytes, these newly developed electrolytes are not highly acidic, which improves the durability of the system. The first electrolyte utilizes co-electrodeposition with synergistic Ni and Cu and improved electrodeposition kinetics using sulfamate ions from nickel sulfamate at near neutral conditions. The second electrolyte utilizes co-electrodeposition with synergistic Bi and Cu with the addition of a chelating agent to create neutral and alkaline electrolytes and exhibits superior durability compared to highly acidic electrolytes.
