Abstract

Portable electronic devices are becoming more and more of a mainstay in society. Most people do not leave their homes without a cell phone, for example, as it has become a necessary device for the vast majority of people across the world. The dependence on these devices has the unintended negative effect of creating dependence on electrical power. Those who spend hours in the outdoors, for example, have no access to an outlet, unable to charge their device when needed. Let the Power Go to Your Head (LPH) has designed an innovative solution to this problem: a portable, solar-powered charger capable of attaching to multiple surfaces, being customized to fit the needs of the consumer, and, most importantly, charge any portable devices operating at five volts. Designed primarily with GoPro cameras and extreme athletes in mind, LPH’s first model was centered on use on a helmet, with solar cells attaching firmly to provide charge to the mounted GoPro while it is in use. The end goal was to create a portable, modular, customizable, and easy-to-use product that utilized renewable energy to power small electronic devices.
