Abstract
Hunter Yeider suffers from Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation (CDG) syndrome, a disease that has resulted in mental and physical disability because it has hindered the Glycosylation of proteins and lipids in his body. Hunter's mom, Faith Yeider, is pursuing a stroller for Hunter that she can use throughout the year, regardless of the weather conditions. High Roller Stroller (HRS) has designed a cost effective, all-season stroller that has a ski attachment mechanism to make it maneuverable in snow and a seat adjustability mechanism to make the seat accommodating to Hunter’s size. Faith had requested that the stroller should be cost efficient, portable, and ensure Hunter’s safety. High Roller Stroller has designed the ski attachment mechanism to allow the stroller to be used on both dry and snowy terrain. The attachment can be detached and reattached easily within 40 seconds using car door latch locking mechanism, and the easily removable wheels. While the skis themselves are in a locked position, they provide acceptable maneuverability in the snow. The seat adjustability mechanism commodiously accommodates all passengers who are 5’ �" 5’6” tall. To do this, the seat slides up and down the main vertical bar, locking into pre-determined positions as per the user needs. The seat adjustability mechanism maintains the portability of the original stroller, and its performance has exceeded the client's expectations. For the proof of concept, HRS presented a quarter scale model of the cambering system that was built using metal erector-set parts and skis fabricated from plastic. The proof of concept proved that the cambering mechanism effectively reduced the turning radius. But, due to its cost it was decided that a non-cambering ski system would be used instead. The sliding seat mechanism design showed that it maintained an angle of more than 90° between the upper and lower leg of the passenger at all times, and meets the design specifications set by the customer and the team.
