Abstract

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can help feed the world using fewer resources, but there is significant negative public opinion towards them. It is important to understand why a person holds a negative opinion in order to change that opinion. This research investigated if the field of study and the year that a person's education was completed contributed opinion on GMOs. Participants with Agriculture, life science, or engineering as a field of study had a higher of GMOs, and participants with health science, liberal arts, or business as a field of study had a lower opinion of GMOs. If a participant completed their education before 2000, they had a more negative opinion on GMOs, and if they completed their education after 2000, they had a more positive opinion on GMOs. This survey had limitations with data collection and more research needs to be conducted on this topic.
