Abstract

Detailed geologic mapping in the Rush Creek drainage, in the northern part of the Ritter Range pendant, Sierra Nevada Range, reveals a stratigraphic sequence of Paleozoic rocks previously unknown and herein defined as the Rush Creek sequence. The Rush Creek sequence most probably represents lower Paleozoic (?) miogeoclinal strata deformed during the Antler orogeny. These rocks possibly correlate with the transitional assemblage of lower Paleozoic rocks in Nevada. The Mesozoic metavolcanic Koip sequence overlies the Paleozoic Rush Creek sequence with a sheared angular unconformity.
